GRACEVILLE'S STATEMENT OF FAITH
Graceville Christian School views herself, as an indispensable part of the three major force in the life of each child; the home, the school and the church. For this reason, the following statement of faith are held by Graceville Christian School.
- We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God in its entirety and that it does not contradict itself. Fully aware of the authority it possesses, it is our guide (2 Timothy 3:15; 2 Peter 1:21).
- We believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and that they are distinct personalities with distinct roles, but one God. And that one God is the creator of the universe (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30)
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the saviour (John 10:33), his immaculate conception (Isaiah 7:14), born of a virgin, lived a sinless life (Hebrew 4:15,7:26). His death on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:3), His resurrection (John 11:25,1 Corinthians 15:4), His ascension and glorious return (Acts 1:11, Revelaty19:11).
- We believe that Christian unity transcends barriers of race, culture, gender, or denomination. Christians are called to follow Christ’s teaching and example; to treat each other with love, honor and respect and strive to be God’s witnesses in their homes and in the world.
- We believe that human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect and value all of human life. Ps.139.
- We believe that education is God’s idea and very strategic to the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth and as such, Graceville staff are taught to inculcate Christian values into the students through Discipleship.
GRACEVILLE’S PHILOSOPHY OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Definition
Philosophy of education is a set of believes that has been intentionally examined and accepted as a framework out of which you develop a view of the aim of education, the nature of the students and learning, the role of the teacher and teaching, the nature and purpose of the curriculum.
Therefore, beliefs impact the thinking and action of an educator and institution as a whole.
The Purpose and Scope of Christian Education
Education according to D. Bruce Lockerbieie, possesses no substance of itself. It is instruction before carrying out society's philosophical goals. Education is important tool of transformation, for inculcating desirable values and attitudes from one generation to another as well as social mobilization since learning results in a permanent change in human behaviour which is life long process that requires time and space, and this is the core of education.
Also, an American scholar and biblical thinker Noah Webster opined that the bringing up of a child, instruction; formation of manners. " Education comprehends all that series of instruction and discipline which is intended to enlighten the understanding, correct the temper and form the manners and habits of youth and fit them for usefulness in their future stations”. Webster definition is itself a demonstration of the chief aim of Christian education- a biblical world view.
Finally, the Apostle, Paul in his treatise on the value and authenticity of scripture, explains that all scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for correction, for reproof, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God can be adequate, equipped for every good work ". (2 Timothy 3:16 -17)
This scripture and definition reveal the very heart of education and forms the foundation for the philosophy of education the Graceville Christian School, made possible by first teaching the students to genuinely honour and reverence the Lord (Proverbs 1:7)
The major tenets of this philosophy we uphold are:
- The development of biblical worldview is the goal of Christ in Education. " And do not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is that which is good and perfect and acceptable”. (Romans 12:2)
We believe that worldview is the way we see things and interpersonal them and this is largely affected by our culture, location (environment), level of exposure etc. But we believe that until the mind is transformed by God's word, education alone can not change the worldview.
Therefore, Graceville Christian affirms that the Bible is the primary source of all learning, it provides through principles of truth, the foundation from which the learner can reason, to every subject and area of life. The fear the lord is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7). The knowledge of biblical principles is absolutely essential to the development of knowledge in any given subject.
- We believe our salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and none other, and that Faith in Jesus requires repentance, confession of the faith before witnesses, obedience to His word and live as the extension of Christ character in our dealings with others.
- We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male and female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflects the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Rejection of one's biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
- We believe teaching God's truth upholding it as the template for life and godliness, so as to be models to all students, pupils, parents, friends and to those in our immediate environment.
- We believe that staff members should be whole heartedly devoted to Christ, so as to model Christ to the younger generation. We also believe in the unity of purpose and the diversity in the body of Christ; so that Graceville as a unique expression of the same can keep finding relevance in God's purpose on earth.
- We believe that excellence is a culture, we teach it and model our students to imbibe it (1 Peter 2:9).
We believe in the total inculcation of Christian curriculum in conjunction with the Association of Christian School International (A.C.S.I) and also the Nigerian curriculum as our guide with biblical integration for Godly worldview. May God help to do according to His will in Jesus name Amen!
